A webpage that has simply been translated from one language
to another cannot be considered "complete" for the
following three reasons:
- The screen space necessary to explain something in English
will usually be considerably greater than the space necessary
to explain the same concept in Chinese or Japanese. This
is due to the phonetic nature of the English language, in
contrast to the concept-oriented nature of Chinese characters
and the mixed phonetic / concept-oriented nature of
Japanese script. Therefore after translation the web page
will often look unbalanced and unnatural. A degree of re-formatting
of the web page will usually be necessary.
- The concepts you explain on your website may be instantly
understandable to a resident of your country, but may be
entirely new to a foreign visitor to your site. A literal
translation may confuse potential clients in your new target
market. Further explanation of terminology or concepts may
be necessary to make your site more user-friendly.
- Your site should be optimized to help potential clients
using search engines in a foreign language to find your
site. This is primarily achieved by usage of HTTP tags in
the target language. If your company employs an effective
webmaster, your site should already be optimized in your
native language so that web-users are directed to your site
by search engines. However that will not assist potential
clients searching in Chinese or Japanese. H.Y.C.C. will
