Born in 1973 in London, England, Adam worked in the family
educational supplies business developing core business skills
from an early age. He graduated from the University of Sheffield
with a 2.1 w/hons in Business Studies and Economics (dual
major). In 1993 he took advantage of a foreign exchange programme
between the University of Sheffield, England and the University
of Maryland, U.S.A. to spend a year at University of Maryland,
Washington D.C. His personal experience of studying in a different
culture was very positive, one reason why H.Y.C.C. is now
so deeply involved in the promotion of foreign study.
After graduation he built on this international experience
on the JET (Japanese Exchange & Teaching) Programme, staying
in Japan to become a CIR (Co-ordinator for International Relations)
in the mountain village of Taira. This taught him a great
deal about Asian values in general and Japanese culture in
particular. It also helped him improve his Japanese, so that
in 1999 he was able to pass the Japanese
Proficiency Examination, Level 1 - the highest
level of certification available for non-native speakers of
Japanese.
In 2001 he joined GMAC Commercial Mortgage (a subsidiary
of General Motors and multinational company in its own right)
as Interpreter / Translator and later Senior Property Manager.
Working in the hectic Tokyo real estate market gave him valuable
experience of a very different aspect of Japanese culture.
In 2004 he commenced study of Mandarin at Beijing Language
and Culture University, transferring to Heilongjiang University,
Harbin. In June 2005 he passed the HSK
Chinese Proficiency Exam, Level 7. This certifies
his Mandarin ability as adequate to study a post-graduate
degree course at a Chinese university.
While living in Harbin, Adam realized the scale of the opportunities
for development of business links in China and decided to
establish the international consultancy from the city he has
grown to love.
Although now fully immersed in Asian life, Adam maintains
his British links. On a Saturday night he will be found at
his computer listening to the live internet feed of his local
football team, Crystal Palace.
His rare combination of proficiency in Mandarin, Japanese
and his native English together with his business background
have given him invaluable insights and a wide-ranging skill
set. He hopes to use these skills to develop links between
China and the international community over a wide range of
fields.
