Dating from 1941, Heilongjiang University is one of the oldest
universities in Harbin. It has traditionally taught classical
subjects, and is generally considered to have the best Russian
Language faculty in China. In recent years the university
has expanded rapidly. Its student body currently exceeds 30,000.

Located in the west of
the city about six kilometres from the main railway
station, Heilongjiang University has an attractive,
spacious campus with a full range of facilities
on-site. These include a ten thousand seater gymnasium
hall, a brand new swimming pool / sports gym complex,
an artificial grass football (soccer) stadium, an
athletics track, banks, post offices, hotels, bookstores
etc. |

Supermarkets and a multitude of restaurants
are also located right outside the university, so many students
rarely find it necessary to make the trip into the city centre.
The international student division at Heilongjiang
University is the largest in the province. There are currently
670 students studying on courses varying in length from one
month to four years. The HSK Chinese Proficiency Examination
is held at Heilongjiang University, reflecting its status
as main educator of foreign students in the province. Foreign
students come mainly from Korea and Siberian Russia, although
there are also a number of students from Japan, North America,
Europe and South America.
The facilities for foreign students include
a choice of four dormitory buildings, a canteen and a games
room. Other necessities like internet cafes, coffee shops
etc are located all around the campus.
